Microblading Chicago 101: Honest answers to common questions on Microblading in Chicago, IL

Updated: Mar 28, 2022

Very often the same questions are given to us at the salon regarding microblading in Chicago. People ask, “How much does microblading cost?” “Does microblading ever completely go away?” or “How many sessions of microblading does microblading need?”. Even questions like, “who is microblading not good for” and “Is microblading or tattooing better?”. In this blog post, I will do my best to answer each one of these questions and more that maybe are not as common, but I am asked. Before you choose microblading in Chicago or pick a microblading salon that serves you best it’s important to know all of the details and if you are the right candidate for the procedure.

So, shall we begin?!

How Much Does Microblading Cost: Specifically Microblading in Chicago, IL?

My prices here at the microblading salon are more affordable than most microblading salons because I believe beauty and confidence serve to be accessible to everyone. I know what it is like to not be able to feel comfortable in your body and I want you to have the opportunity to feel that self-care is possible for you too. While I am a luxury and hyper-realistic permanent makeup salon, I want you to feel like you can afford your perfect eyebrows. Everyone deserves the luxury of feeling good! Our prices for microblading eyebrows are $450 for the set. Common prices around microblading in Chicago can go upwards of$ 600 or $700. Very often microblading Chicago sites will be tricky and not put their prices on their website hoping they can get you into their salon without telling you until you are ready to purchase.

I do my best to offer a price that actually is about saving you money and time. Imagine hitting the snooze button in the morning a few times and not having to put your makeup on in the morning and waking up beautifully ready for your day! That is what this can do for you. This is a real experience that can change your morning routine and build more time for real self-care. I can’t wait to see you at the best eyebrow microblading in Chicago, Rize Beauty Lab.

How Many Sessions of Microblading Does Microblading Need?

Microblading eyebrows typically are one session and one touch-up session a month later. The microblading session can take up to 3 or 4 hours depending on the style of your eyebrows. You can do eyebrow shading, powder brows, and there will be eyebrow mapping as well to make sure your eyebrows are symmetrical and designed to look as natural as possible on your face. Our salon is focused on hyper-realistic brows, so it looks luxurious and can even change the way your whole face looks.

Does Microblading Ever Completely Go Away?

Microblading does fade over time, as microblading is a semi-permanent tattoo. How much longer microblading lasts is dependent on your skin and how well it takes. Microblading eyebrows usually last about 18 to 30 months with touch-ups annually. If you are a good candidate for microblading then it will last longer. I will always do a free consultation with my clients so that we can pick the perfect permanent eyebrow procedure for your skin and complexion.

It won’t ever completely fade to nothing, however, if you didn’t like your look or felt it was too dark there are lifting agents you can use after your treatment to lighten the color and make it less intense. Don’t worry, there are always solutions to making your perfect eyebrows pop!

Who is Microblading Not Good For??

Not everyone is a prime candidate for microblading eyebrows. Permanent makeup like tattooing with machine hair strokes very often is best for those with oily skin or darker complexion and it lasts much longer. If your skin is oily or darker microblading eyebrows can come out blurry and less realistic. Because I am a perfectionist and I want you to have the best results possible this is another reason I always do consultations before the appointment. Be sure to realize that I will call you and check in with you even if you go straight to booking your appointment today for microblading or for permanent makeup.

Is Microblading or Tattooing Better?

I get asked this question often. It is hard to tell you which one is better as I feel my clients serve to make that choice for themselves. However, here are the differences.

Microblading Eyebrows:

  • Lasts 18-30 months

  • Requires touch-ups more often because it is less easy to be exactly perfect as it is cutting into the skin and then applying semi-permanent ink.

  • Some people don’t take the ink or the lines can appear blurry/ look more like a shading eyebrow or ombre technique.

  • It is trauma on the skin as it is cutting your skin with multiple needles at once and then adding ink.

Tattooing Eyebrows with Permanent Makeup:

  • Lasts up to 3 years, sometimes even longer if you spend less time in the sun and don’t use as many chemicals in your face cleanser.

  • Works for all skin types and complexion.

  • Less trauma on the skin as it doesn’t have to go as deep into the skin and is only one needle, therefore doesn’t scar the skin.

  • Can be more realistic as it’s draws on the skin one line and at a time.

  • No/less pain using numbing cream and less invasive.

  • Can be a bit more expensive as it takes a more skilled permanent makeup artist to do this type of tattoo work.

What is the Healing Process of Microblading?

For microblading, it will seem like the healing process takes 10 to 12 days but the pigment needs time to settle into the final color because there is still internal happening for a few more weeks. The area is not completely healed until 6 to 8 weeks have passed since the initial session and only after that time has passed can you decide if you need a touch-up or not.

Microblading healing process.

Day 1 and 2 - Your brows will feel a bit tender as well as red and swollen. The area is still freshly done and can be infected so never touch them with unwashed hands. The hair strokes will be darker than you wanted but this is just a normal part of the healing process.

Day 3 and 4 - Your brows may begin to feel tight and itchy but do not scratch because at this stage scabs begin to form and if you scratch one off you will also take away the pigment.

Day 5 through 7 - This is not the most attractive phase of the healing process because the scabs start to peel and flake. You must be diligent, do not pull, pick, rub or try to wash off any of this or you will pull away from the color, if you see a flake dangling there you need to leave it alone.

Days 8 through 10 - This is the ghosting phase of the healing process. Your brows will be lighter than you wanted and may even look like they are completely gone but this is only an illusion because there is a new layer of skin that formed and this milky layer is not translucent so the pigment is not visible but once the skin fully heals you will see your color returning.

Days 11 through 14 - During this phase you can expect the peeling to come to an end and you no longer have to follow the aftercare instructions given to you.

Days 15 through 42 - It takes this much time for the color to truly re-appear and it takes 42 days for the internal healing to complete. Now you will know if there are any hair strokes you want to be touched up or not and only at this time since it is completely healed can you get a touch-up.
